What reunions are all about. Most of these guys hadn't seen each
other in 40 years. Tom Watson, Tommy McHale, Jim Penticoff,
Ulysses Miller, Davy Gfeller, Wayne Norrad, and Gary Pino....

2011 CCT Mini Reunion
Las
Vegas, Nevada
March 24th to March 27th
2011
Overview
The first west coast mini reunion
was well attended, and well received. Fifty-five of sixty-three (87%)
registrants attended the actual event, and everyone seemed to really enjoy
themselves.
We had an open bar on two of the
nights. On Friday night we had a hosted reception with an open bar thanks to
the gracious owners of the South Point Hotel and Casino. Many stories were
told, and old friendships were re-kindled. We were pleasantly surprised when
about ten active duty controllers arrived to join us and remained involved for
most of the weekend.
Saturday morning we viewed a
documentary film on a CCT mission in Afghanistan followed by Captain
Jennrich answering questions about Operation Enduring Freedom. During that
gathering Chief Norrad also gave us a briefing on the status of the CCA,
discussed many CCT current affairs, and also answered lots of questions.
On Saturday afternoon there was a
poker tournament that was attended by 44% of the overall attendees. Through
registration and the poker tournament we raised and donated $2,165.00 for the
Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
Finally on Saturday afternoon we
learned the sad news of Chief Hooper’s death. We did memorial push-ups for Al
right there on the casino floor with Chief Norrad leading the way. We went back
to the bar and enjoyed the last few hours together culminating with everyone
sharing an “Irish car bomb.”
Survey results
We only received a small number of
surveys (less than 25%), so scientifically speaking the results aren’t
meaningful. Fortunately running a CCT reunion doesn’t have to be scientifically
valid, so we’ll go over the results anyway.
We assume that anyone who didn’t turn in a survey was too drunk, and was
having too much fun to worry about it.
Respondents were enthusiastic about
attending another event like this. We learned that 100% of respondents would
attend again, and 100% favored returning to Las Vegas. We seemed to capture lots of
people who hadn’t been able to make it out to Fort Walton Beach lately, as 83% of
respondents did not go to the most recent reunion there. This tells us we are
providing a service to CCA members on the West Coast who might find it
difficult getting out to Florida.
At the same time we don’t feel like we are taking away from the primary
reunion, because 83% of respondents said they would consider attending both
events in the same year.
We think the main take home points
from this survey (as well as our informal discussions with folks) were that most people would attend again on a yearly
basis, and that Vegas is a favorable venue........... Kyle Stanbro, Seam McPartland, and Scott Light
After Vegas we found our way to Mike & Vickie Dale's Hacienda
