It was at the 2005 CCA Memorial Ceremony and Marty had asked her to pass a few words on to us in his absence. She stood there, small in statue, large in presence with a beauty that was astounding. I was seeing Jana for the first time, even though she was always with Marty. She spoke of their love and of Marty's love for CCT and his final message for us .. From Jana Martinez (pictured above); Marty passed away this spring. Marty did not want a big funeral. He asked me to bury him in his home town in Grand Junction, Colorado. He wanted to be remembered here at the CCT reunion with his Air Force family that he loved so much. He wanted me to say a few words and have his dear friend and comrade,Charlie Jones say a prayer. I was honored not only to have Marty as my husband but also my best friend. He was also my hero. He was a man of few words, but what he said was usually to the point and made an impact. He was a humble man never bragging of accomplishments or heroic deeds while here on earth. So during some of our final moments together, it did not surprise me when I asked him how he wanted to be remembered -- that he did not want to be remembered by himself, but here along with his fellow and fallen comrades. Marty had no way of knowing that Combat Control would lose active duty members this year after his own death. The words he chose profoundly apply to them, even though they were originally written for a Vietnam Veteran. These are the words that were so dear to him: "All Gave Some, But Some Gave All For The Red, White, And Blue Some Had To Fall So When You Think Of Me, Think Of All Your Liberties And Recall .. Some Gave All" I invite everyone to put a smile on their face and visit CCT Photo Gallery 42 and enjoy some of the pictures Marty was so kind to share with us. RIP......................... Yet Want They Neither Recompense, Nor Praise, Nor To Be Mentioned In Another Breath Than Their Living Comrades, Whose Great Days It Was Their Pride To Share, Aye Share, Even In Death! There are men who have a determination of spirit that transcends the aspirations of most. These men answer a call, which comes deep from within the essence of their own convictions. They share a kindred amongst themselves and though never spoken, its' strength exceeds the power of any outside ideals forced upon it. The sacrifices made from their ranks are great, and each loss falls hard among those who remain. Yet they continue, knowing each time they step into the sun, the rays that penetrate their souls are the voices of their comrades leading them on to the next adventure.
